check this out! tasting 09.16.26

Check This Out! It’s one of our favorite things to say when we’re sharing something we’re excited about, especially wine. For us it’s a signal and an invitation to something exciting.

Check This Out! Tasting is built on the success of our Wine Opinion Wednesday (WOW) Tastings and our new Bottle Share Thursdays. We love the informal fun that everyone enjoys at WOW. On Thursdays we’ve watched our guests light up as they try wines from a higher tier than what we normally offer by the glass. We decided to combine these fun ways to enjoy wine. You can think of Check This Out! as a relaxed tasting atmosphere like WOW but with top notch wines.

special event: 00 Wines tasting

When one of our favorite distributors called to see if we would like to host a tasting of 00 (pronounced Double Zero) Wines with Chris and Kathryn Hermann, the owners of 00 Wines, we were an easy YES! David has known the Hermanns for more than a decade, and they make fantastic wine, so we are thrilled to host them for an incredible tasting of Oregon Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, plus a treat from Burgundy. We love the 00 wines because they are so textural and complex on the palate. They remind us of why we love Burgundy, while offering a distinct point of view of the terroirs of Oregon.

Wine Camp - Exploring Natural wine

Maybe you’ve heard the term natural wine or even natty wine, but what does that really mean? Together we will taste and talk about natural and traditional wines and how they differ in both flavor and winemaking decisions. Natural wines can be controversial, and some people really don’t like them while others are exclusively devoted to them. This is an important area to get a better sense of because it will help you navigate wine lists so you can order the style of wine you will actually enjoy! Together we’ll taste 4 wines, showing a range from classical to very natty.

Wine Camp - Exploring the Price of wine

We get a lot of questions about why some wines cost so much more than other wines, and you might wonder, are the expensive ones really worth it? Come find out for yourself! Together we’ll taste 3 wines from the same grape from 3 different price points so you can get a sense of the differences for yourself. We’ll talk about winemaking, farming and vineyard location, and all the pieces that go into the price of your wine. We’ll also talk about some things that add cost but not much value, so you can avoid wines that aren’t going to give you bang for the buck.

Wine Camp - Exploring Glassware

Does the glass you put your wine in really matter? Come find out for yourself! Together we will explore glassware, specifically the shape of the wine glass and how it changes the taste, smell and texture of the wine. You may have wondered about the different shapes of the glasses we use at Pulling Corks, and why we put specific wines in certain glasses and not others. There are some guidelines of course but the most important test is checking it out for yourself. Come and taste 2 wines from 3 different glasses, to see how different shapes add or detract from each wine. This tasting is always fun, and surprising to experience just how much the wines change from glass to glass. As always, David will be happy to answer your questions and guide your experience.
